Who We Are:
WHO WE ARE:
WE ARE A VIBRANT, SELF SUSTAINING COMMUNITY OF ARTISTS THAT HAS SUPPORTED NOT ONLY ARTISTS BUT THE COMMUNITY OF RED HOOK THROUGHOUT OUR 40+ YEAR HISTORY. STARTED IN 1978, THIS GRASS ROOTS GROUP OF ARTISTS SOUGHT TO SUPPORT EACH OTHER AS WELL AS OTHER EMERGING ARTISTS AND TO GIVE THEM A PLATFORM ON WHICH TO EXHIBIT THEIR ART, ENRICHING THE COMMUNITY THROUGH PERFORMANCE, VISUAL PRESENTATIONS, WORKSHOPS, LECTURES, AND OTHER OPPORTUNITIES FOR ENGAGEMENT THROUGH THE ARTS.
EVERY PENNY HELPS! YOUR DONATIONS HELP US BRING SOCIALLY CONSCIOUS PROGRAMMING BACK INTO OUR COMMUNITY. THIS YEAR WE WERE ABLE TO BEGIN A YOUNG PERFORMERS SERIES , OPEN OUR DOORS TO THE AGED FOR EXTRA OPEN HOURS, AND TRAIN CITY YOUTH INTERNS ABOUT MANAGING A GALLERY! WITH YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT, BROOKLYN WATERFRONT ARTISTS CAN CONTINUE TO OFFER THESE PROGRAMS AND EVEN MORE FOR THE COMING YEAR.
YOUR DONATIONS MAKE IMPACTFUL STATEMENTS CONCERNING THE IMPORTANCE THAT YOU GIVE TO ARTS PROGRAMMING IN YOUR COMMUNITY .
For example, we all know that in most communities, events reach the public via social media outlets. Did you know that with just $7.00, you could help us reach out to 1.2 thousand people in our community for one week through booster ads on Face Book?
The result is that by reaching more people in our community, the culture of arts programming can benefit all – artists and residents alike!
What started out in 1978 as a grass roots artist co-op has grown over the years by leaps and bounds. Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition was able to become a 501c(3) non for profit organization through hard work and the establishment of community partnerships with the Brooklyn Arts Council, the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce and of course, our esteemed benefactors, The O’Connell Organization. With the generosity of a beautifully situated warehouse space for our organization in Red Hook, we were well on our way to promoting emerging artists in seasonal shows which have become a tradition in RedHook.
Today, we are still maintained strictly by donations from generous supporters like you and we look forward to continuing our programming so that we can give back to our community . We offer artists of all genres the opportunity to exhibit in our gallery space almost all year long through juried shows, member shows, pop up art galleries, our Young Performance Series, Internship Programs as well as through special events such as Red Hook Open Studios and places such as private law firms, the Brooklyn Historical Society and more! We are a totally artist run organization with many needs and have always strived to put our best foot forward with what we offer to the community. Please enjoy the video below which is just a peek of what we do!
