Villo Varga

I’ve been aiming to show my contemporary surroundings both by my paintings – mostly in photorealistic style, or with my photographs, that are sometimes abstracts. I’ve been very much inspired by New York’s life, especially by its growing city scape, colors and mostly with its ever changing, telltale signs: those show us the thinking of this great city – and I would like to mirror it back…

I titled this oil painting “Messages of New York #3” (below left). It is a part of my cityscape series, where I incorporated signs, ads to different area of the city, that were meaningful, funny…
This one depicts my favorite billboard/building at 34th St. and 8th Ave., near Madison Square Garden. Besides the “walking” sign I was intrigued by trying to capture the city’s night sky and the atmosphere in a summer night in Manhattan.
