Painting re-tunes my eyes and hands to find the sometimes elusive beauty in the living, breathing world around me. I paint whenever and wherever I can—around New York by bicycle and subway, during travels on our boat, at the Art Students League, and in my home studio. I’m responding to constant small changes in the environment and my subject, as well as my own memories and emotions. I do not make reproductions of my work, except to post a photo to my website, madilounelson.com, and to Instagram, @madilounelson.
As an environmentalist and long-time participant in such projects as Bookcrossing, Freecycle and the Really Really Free Market, I’d love to see hand-made works of art accessible to all. I have done barters, long-term loans and outright gifts. If you see something you like and the price is an issue, let’s talk. Long live mutual aid.
