WIDE OPEN 9, our ninth spectacular juried show on this theme is on exhibit May 12 – June 17, 2018.
Our juror is Carmen Hermo, the Brooklyn Museum’s Assistant Curator for the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art.
“The WIDE OPEN 9 exhibition is a varied, lively assortment of artists whose works showcase bold and diverse approaches, techniques, and subjects. The exhibition includes many artworks dealing with questions of inequity, borders, gender, and pain, but there is also a strong strain of optimism amidst the anxiety, and visions for a new world imagined with a vast array of approaches. These artists create images that connect us, challenge us, and inspire us. “
– Carmen Hermo, Juror
“As expected from our discerning juror, Carmen Hermo, the Brooklyn Museum’s Assistant Curator for the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art, many of the 95 national artists chosen are adding their timely and provocative political, gender-related commentary to our local art scene. Promoting dialogue between our artists and our audience is what BWAC always strives for in presenting our “Wide Open” series. ”
– Therese Urban, Co-Curator of WIDE OPEN 9
$3000 Cash Awards were presented at the opening reception on May 12, 2018.
