The Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition (BWAC) opens a member art show, Spring! Coiled & Ready!, on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at the BWAC Gallery in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Spring! Coiled & Ready! is an exhibition featuring artists living and working in New York City, and is on view from Saturday, May 11, to Sunday, July 7, 2019.
The word “spring” conjures up a myriad of definitions. It is at once a season, an object and an action. This exhibition seeks to explore the literal and metaphorical aspects of the concept through paintings, drawing, sculpture … and of course, color and form.
Anna Hagan, show curator, added, “We looked to present work that expresses the power of “spring” and its potential to delight or surprise. The power of “spring” is also growth. Rebirth. Resilience. Renewal. Spring has sprung, but what has it sprung? A harbinger of promise born from the seeds of inspiration and ideas, a sense, coiled and ready, of becoming more.”
The opening reception for Spring! Coiled & Ready! is on Saturday, May 18, 2019, 1-6 PM, in the upstairs BWAC Gallery.
This program is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.
The Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition (BWAC) is Brooklyn’s largest artist-run organization. For more than 40 years, BWAC has been exhibiting the artwork of artists with seasonal mega-exhibits that include national juried and local member shows, which present a wide variety of contemporary visual arts from the traditional to the experimental cutting edge. Ours is a truly unique gallery — a massive Civil War‐era warehouse on the Red Hook waterfront in Brooklyn, NY.
BWAC receives generous support from the O’Connell Organization, the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs and its many members and friends. Please visit bwac.org for more information on membership and exhibits, or to donate. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram.
